Human Rights Watch Film Festival 2017: Complicit (15*) + ScreenTalk
13 March, 2017 @ 6:15 pm - 8:30 pm
Complicit follows the journey of Chinese migrant worker-turned-activist Yi Yeting, a Foxconn factory worker who takes his fight against the global electronic industry from his hospital bed to the international stage. While struggling to survive his own work-induced leukaemia, he teaches himself labour law to prepare a legal challenge against his former employers.
But in his struggle to try and save lives and improve working conditions for millions of Chinese people, he confronts some of the world’s most profitable and recognised brands – Apple, Samsung – bringing forth a government crackdown on behalf of powerful forces who do not want these scandals exposed.
