London Book & Screen Week 2017
Taking place 13 – 19 March, London Book & Screen Week is the capital’s biggest ever celebration of books, and the films, TV programmes and virtual worlds they’ve inspired. The celebration brings storytelling and the written word to life, uniting the capital’s avid readers, writers, game, film and TV fans through a whole host of events taking place right across literary London.
The festival merges a vibrant series of specially curated events, with an open sourced strand of activities that anyone can submit to online at www.londonbookandscreenweek.co.uk. Last year’s line-up featured special film screenings, interviews with Marian Keyes and Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes, and discussion panels tackling everything from Shakespeare to digital storytelling in gaming.
Now in its third year, the seven day festival continues to grow in scale and impact and will follow a stellar year of book to screen big hitters that provide fertile ground for a celebration of imagination, creativity and culture inspired by books. Popular adaptations from 2016 include The Jungle Book, The Girl on the Train, Bridget Jones’ Baby and JK Rowling’s latest spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which arrives just ahead of next year’s 20th anniversary of all things Harry Potter.
In a year when audiences jumped from one on-screen sensation to another, whether it be Stephen King inspired Netflix series Stranger Things or TV programme turned overnight gaming phenomenon, Pokemon Go, the event will give ample opportunity to speculate on the box office hits and the TV ratings grabbers of the future.
London Book and Screen Week is produced by The London Book Fair, one of the most important events in the publishing calendar, which is attended annually by around 25,000 global book industry professionals.
